September 2006

This is the third and final part of the
programme of site specific live art
and performance during the summer
of 2006. Co-curated by Art Surgery
and Newlyn Art Gallery, Tract features
national and international artists at
diverse sites in Penzance.
The weekends in July and August
were presented at Jubilee Pool,
St Johns Hall, South Pier and the
streets of Penzance town centre. The
focus for this weekend is Penlee Park.

Friday 22 September
Queens Hotel, Promenade, Penzance.

Helena Goldwater
Hot Soak Archive

Hot Soak is a one-to-one evening
performance in the lavish comfort of
a room with a seaview at the Queens
Hotel. You are invited to spend five
minutes alone with Helena Goldwater
in the bathroom; a place of cleansing
and intimacy.

Saturday 23 September
Penlee Park and Penzance
Bowls Club.

Alaistair MacLennan THYME MITE
Archive

This 9 hour performance will see the
artist confined within a greenhouse
with 18 fish skeletons and a wooden
chair, slowly filling the greenhouse
with new elements. “...concerns
include ethics, aesthetics, religious /
political bigotry, inclusive tolerance,
oppositional or consensus means
of political / social improvement,
death, decay, new life and mutation,
transformation.”



 


Lucille Power Super Bowls!
Archive
As a guest of Penzance Bowls Club. Lucille will be exploring notions of social art as she participates in the clubs fancy
dress end of season finale. The event
is open for all to watch and begins at
10.00 at Penzance Bowls Club,
Newlyn Green.

The Fine Art Service Industry
Archive
will provide
additional security for Penlee House
Gallery and Museum. As a uniformed
guard he will ensure the safety of art
and audience whilst questioning the
functions and uses of museums
and galleries.



Victoria Melody’s narrative Archive
work
Faraway Voices two lovers are
kidnapped and dumped miles apart.
Will they be reunited or kept apart?
Using GPRS technology the public
can help decide their fate from 13.00
to 17.00 in a HQ tent in Penlee Park.




Morph Gino Saccone’s
Archive
performance
examines ideas of memorial through
nature’s lifecycle. Artificiality and
simulation are here deployed as the
artist will be disguised to blend into
the surroundings of Penlee Park. You
are invited to seek him out in the
gardens between 13.00 and 16.00.


The Mercian Enactment Society
Caroline Morris
Archive will bring
forgotten narratives to public
attention and draw on local memory.
Performance walks will begin at Penlee
Park at 14.00 and at 16.00. A circular
walk lasting approximately 30 minutes,
encompassing Morrab Gardens,
Chapel Street and Morrab Road.



 


AmandaCouch Neo Sakkharic:
A New Sugar Age
Archive
A stylised yet corrupted
version of a genteel 19th century
tea ritual. Sugar tea cups and saucers
gradually disintegrate. The work also
makes reference to neolithic artefacts
in the museum’s collection.

Fran Cottell’s Cab Drivers
Archive
is a synchronized relay around
Penzance.Four cab drivers will drive and
talk you through an alternative
of the area from the perspective
the cabbie. The pickup and destination
point is Penlee Park, contact Newlyn
Art Gallery for a free place. Duration
one hour, pickup times are between
15.30 and 17.10.

A pay bar will be available in the
area during the extended opening
hours of the gallery and museum.
